The tongues were clucking at the 13th annual Gilbert Community Excellence Awards Friday night when Mayor Steve Berman arrived WITH estranged wife Michelle Berman at his side.
We last left the Bermans and their very public break-up with the lifting in late August of a court order of protection that Michelle had sought and received. While the order was lifted, the two were not to come within 150 feet of each other.
But they were within millimeters of each other when they arrived after the program had already started and wound their way to the front of the room to sit at a VIP table.
Is it coincidental that they’ve apparently made up with the mayoral race starting to heat up? They sat within a few feet of Councilman Don Skousen who has announced that he is challenging Berman in next March’s mayoral primary.
Gilbert’s Who’s Who filled the ballroom at Trilogy at Power Ranch, where the town honored several citizens for their contributions to the community.
Berman had a role in the program, handing out five of the awards that were designated “municipal awards.” But he did not speak, deferring to master of ceremonies Wally Delecki, former Gilbert School District superintendent.
Here is a link to the last story about the Bermans state of matrimony.

Geez, the talented Mr. Ripley illustrates the tabloid nature of the Tribune. Have you got nothing better to do than to try and ride the Berman train off the tracks? You’re pathetic and your “retirement” did not come soon enough. I can say this: Steve Berman is a better mayor than you are a, gulp, journalist.
According to records on the court website The court order is still valid, their not to have any contact with each other and gpd let it happen, aren’t they supposed to uphold the law?
The future of the Tribune as a gossip rag…..GREAT!
For the sake of the Berman’s, let’s hope that they both got some professional help and that this isn’t just another short term pretend marriage while Steve runs for Mayor again.
Having said that, Steve Berman doesn’t deserve another 4 years as Gilbert’s Mayor, plain and simple. His actions during the past 4 years have constantly embarrassed the town - he’s tried to get an convicted DUI offender off with no jail time using his influence as Mayor, he’s bragged about his relationships with rich developers, and he’s helped saddle the town with debt that our children with be hard pressed to pay off.
Don Skousen’s political and spending decisions haven’t been very far from Mayor Berman’s either. On virtually every single major spending project, Don Skousen has voted lock step with Steve Berman.
It’s time to get some new blood into this council. We simply can’t afford another 4 more years of Gilbert’s version of the old boy’s club.
Well, I thought the trib was somewhat of a RAG but now you’ve have really proved it.
This is news?? Maybe someone should start digging into Ripleys life and pull up some the skeletons in his closet and throw it out there and let’s have some comments eh?
Maybe Berman hasn’t been the best in some of your opinions as I don’t think Skouson is much of a Mayoral candidate either but we sure don’t need a guy who is 21 years old without ANY experience in that office either.
Becareful for what you wish for folks, you may get it and not want it after you get it.
